Originally developed by Marsha Linehan, PhD, ABPP, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT Therapy) is an evidence based psychotherapy used to treat mood disorders and to change patterns of behavior that are not effective, such as self-harm, suicidal ideation, and maladaptive behaviors.

DBT Therapy helps people increase their emotional and cognitive regulation by learning the triggers that lead to reactive states and helping assess which coping skills to apply in order to be effective (doing what works) and to avoid undesired reactions.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT Therapy) assumes people are doing their best, and lack the skills needed to succeed and my also be influenced by positive or negative reinforcements that get in the way of optimal living. DBT therapists focus on building the tools and skills needed to manage emotions and behaviors more effectively and constructively. DBT Therapy skills include skills for mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness.

At OptimalLife Wellness Center, we offer Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT Therapy) informed counseling only currently.  We will work with your current DBT Therapy group, and/or provide on-going therapeutic support to continue the work you have already completed with your DBT Therapy program.
